Sidney Marcus Park
Now this Park has some history.
This is one of the largest playgrounds and grouping of picnic tables in the area. A simply wonderful park - with some baggage. In the late 1960s and throughout the 70s, GDOT planned and started to build I-485 through the heart of Morningside and Virginia Highlands. Brave and committed neighbors ended it. Believe it. For evidence, look for pockets of 1980s architecture (stucco, colonial, etc.) among 1929 bungalows. Or, check out this well-done Wikipedia article or this article. Also look to Sidney Marcus - a park born out of the gap left by GDOT bulldozers. It is named after one of the late state senators who helped fight the freeway and save the neighborhood.
Here’s a map, and visit - your kids will thank you for it.
